Surging e-commerce and supply chain disruption has created a shortage of available warehouse space. To meet the rising demand, large and easily accessible retail parks have become sought-after locations for the logistics sector.

Due to its scale and positioning, we have long considered Peterborough One (PE1) as an ideal location for warehouse operations. With this in mind, we are very pleased to reveal that The Store Room plan to leverage the potential of our park with an 80,000 sq ft storage and workspace centre.

The development

The proposed construction will be approximately 14.5 metres high, 60 metres long and 33 metres wide. Once completed, the facility will provide secure self storage units for business and domestic use, ranging from 15 sq ft to 200 sq ft and larger in size and is expected to create three jobs.

Besides its state of state-of-the-art self-storage facilities, the site plans to offer high quality office and co-working space as well as access to ‘pick-up and drop-off’ distribution services in collaboration with logistics giant, DHL.

The Store Room

Founded in 2006, The Store Room offer simple, flexible self-storage rooms for household customers, as well as a number of storage and space options for businesses. The UK organisation currently operate facilities in Leeds, Bradford, Rotherham, Leicester, Salford, and Preston and are currently embarking on a national expansion programme.

A spokesperson for The Store Room gave the following statement regarding their latest venture at PE1: “Through the combination of services including storage and flexible workspace, the facility will indirectly contribute to the local economy by providing specifically tailored services to help local enterprises grow.”

He added: “It is clear that demand for self storage is growing from both business and domestic users.

“For commercial customers self-storage is particularly attractive as space is rented on a flexible and cost-effective basis with no long-term commitment required.

“Further support services are also useful to commercial customers, such as parcel receipt and dispatch, and the flexible office and co-working space, which can be used to undertake associated business administration functions.

“For domestic customers self-storage can be an invaluable tool to help navigate important life events, such as moving house, redecorating, decluttering, downsizing, and accommodating a growing family.”

PE1

PE1 is located to the north-east of Peterborough City Centre on the A15 Paston Parkway/A1139 Frank Perkins Parkway – Peterborough Ring Road and half a mile south of junction 20 of the A47 trunkroad, with easy access to the A1 junction 17. The A1(M) is a strategic North-South link between London and Edinburgh which provides an East-West dual carriageway connection from the deep water ports of Felixstowe and Harwich to the Midlands motorway network.

The growing number of households in the East Anglian suburbs and countryside, provide PE1 with an expanding audience for its broad range services. With popular stores that include Van Hage, Aldi, The Works and Inflata Nation – the park prides itself on creating a synergy between retail and leisure.

“We at Targetfollow are pleased to be able to share the news that The Store Room have applied for planning to bring this new facility as part of the wider development at the Peterborough One, linking seamlessly with existing garden centre, shops, cafes, supermarket and leisure amenities including the new Aldi store, which opened in June 2021.”
